It couldn’t be easier to participate in our Appeal Letter campaign. All you have to do to get started is follow these steps. What you might do beyond that is up to you.
Make a list of all your potential donors. Start with family, friends, relatives and neighbors. Then expand to people you do business with and anyone else you can think of. Maybe there are places you can post a letter with a sign up sheet.
Now make a file of this list so you can keep track of the donations from year to year.
Download our Appeal Letters or use them to create one of your own. Put your return address on them and then make as many copies as you need.

Send them out to everyone. Some people have had better success when they send a stamped and/or at least a self addressed return envelope with it.
As the donations come in, keep track of them on your chart. Then send them in to the Twin Cities chapter. You can send them in batches or keep them until after the cut-off date and send everything together. DO NOT have your donors send them directly to the chapter, for two reasons…

Remember, Oct. 31 is just an arbitrary deadline. We will gladly take donations any time we get them. You don’t even have to do the Appeal in October. You can do it at whatever time of year suits you best. But do it every year.
Don’t forget to make a donation of your own if you can.
Notice that we now can take VISA/MasterCard.
Give them the opportunity to say yes. This isn’t a test of friendship, it’s about giving them a chance to help us find a cure if they want to.
Be sure to have people check with their employer about matching donations. Many companies have a matching gift program. This is a great way to DOUBLE their donation for free. They just have to get the form from the company, fill out their part, and then send it in with their donation.
Keep track of your results from year to year so you’ll know who’s responding and who’s not. After the first couple of years you can start editing out those who aren’t.
Make sure you get any stragglers or any other money in to us before Dec. 27 so we can get it in to headquarters by the end of the year.
If you’ve come this far on this site then I presume you would like to be cured. So how do you suppose that’s going to happen? These spinal cords aren’t going to heal themselves! Here is your opportunity to help make cure a reality. There is no place where you money will do more good than the Spinal Cord Society and no easier way for you to raise it than our Appeal Letter. If you’ve got a legitimate reason for not being able to do it, that’s fine- so what can you do instead?
This is not a case where we can afford to sit back and let the other guy do it. There aren’t enough of us involved as it is. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to die in this chair. I am proud to say I am part of the solution in this great quest to find a cure. How about you?
